Problems with makefile under eclipse

I converted the Android project to C/C++ as per instructions and Makefile was produced. However, build always failed. I honed the problem down to ANDROID_NDK_ROOT. I tried setting this up a environment variable, build variable - anywhere I could. It would NOT resolve. Since I had set up path to find ndk-build anywhere I found that the fix was to remove the variables (per se) and just call ndk-build from the makefile. This worked and I was able to build. I am still at a loss why the ANDROID_NDK_ROOT was not resolving.

Has anyone else had that problem with the example projects?

There have been posts in the past related to building the sample app. You may want to check the following posts and see if the solutions apply to your case.
