Profiling on Snapdragon 821 DSP

Is it possible to profile the DSP on the Snapdragon 821?  I don't see any options in my profiler for DSP.  I'm curious if support is only for 820, or I'm overlooking a setup item.

Unfortunately DSP profiling on Pixel currently requires root access. We hope to remove this limitation in a future release, but for now if the device is not rooted you will not be able to access any DSP metrics.

And  I cannot profile DSP metrics on my open-q 820 dev board with Android 7

Do you have any suggestions on that?
