Cannot flash RB5

I have a problem with flashing the RB5 Dev Kit. I successfully downloaded the SDK Manager and created an image for flashing under Ubuntu 18.04. However, when I try to flash, I am either stuck forever after the messages:

> Enter 'y' to continue, 'q' to main menu: y
> Device found: /dev/ttyUSB0
> SDK manager flashing full build...
> Initializing flash ...

Or in other cases, it continues, but always gives the error "ERROR: Timeout - no response trying to read from target" after it writes for the first time to the device.

I think that the device is not in the right mode for flashing. The documentation says that it has to be in EDL mode. lsusb always shows me the device in QDL mode when it is connected:

> Bus 002 Device 006: ID 05c6:9008 Qualcomm, Inc. Gobi Wireless Modem (QDL mode)

I tried pressing the F_DL button before plugging in power and releasing it after connecting the device via the provided USB-C cable. I also tried to press F_DL after plugging in power but before connecting the USB cable and releasing the button after connection with the computer and I also tried not pressing the button at all. It all has the same effect. It somehow seems that the button is not working, but I can feel it "clicking".

I have no idea what else I can try. I did not change any of the switches. Can it be that some of them are not set correctly for flashing? Any ideas?

Hi  heiko.hirschmueller

Have you done this?

7. If you are using a Linux desktop to flash the device, please run the following command before connecting the device to the desktop.

   $ sudo systemctl stop ModemManager

Thanks

No, I skipped that step. Flashing worked now!

Thanks

I seem to have a similar issue despite doing

'$ sudo systemctl stop ModemManager'

> 2
==================================================
Flash full build to Robotics RB5 device
The flash process will take about 5 minutes
Current image version to be flashed: QRB5165.1.0.0-201023
==================================================

Enter 'y' to continue, 'q' to main menu: y
Device found: /dev/ttyUSB0
SDK manager flashing full build...
Initializing flash ...
Initializing flash process failed
Please follow the README and reconnect your device to PC

Gets stuck at 'Initializing flash ...' for a long time before throwing the error 'Initializing flash process failed'

is there anything else I might be missing?

Can you restart your machine, then do flash again?

I faced this problem too,

Check which version of Ubuntu you are using for host machine, and then verify that following packages are installed in the allocated directory where sdk is installed. I tried on 20.04 version, it didn't work.

But 18.04 ubuntu version with the following instructions worked.

Required minimum package version: coreutils 8.28, fakechroot 2.19, fakeroot 1.22, kmod 24-1ubuntu3.2, libc6-arm64-cross 2.27, python 2.7.15, qemu-user-static 1:2.11+dfsg1ubuntu7.28, udev 237-3ubuntu10.42, unzip 6.0, wget 1.19.4.

Hello. I have a VM running Ubuntu 18.04 on virtualbox and I was having the same issues described above. The solution described above didn't work, but when I enabled USB 3.0 in the virtualbox settings, it started working for me.

On Ubuntu 20.04 it is possible to flash RB5 with PCAT tool from Qualcomm. I tested it.
