We want to use the QCA4020 in combination with an external application processor (in order to run Mbed OS). We want to use AT Commands or HTC for control over RF and data.
Now I am trying to understand how I can utilize the Wi-Fi connection of the QCA4020 to download and transfer the firmware for the external MCU.
Can the 'download firmware' functionality be used to retreive a firmware for the external MCU or is there a different way to do this?

Yes, QCA4020 can be used for Active wifi connection and store and retreive firmware for the external MCU into file system partition.
However, you need to change the download firmware option which is used to perform OTA upgrade for QCA4020 to retrive firmware for external MCU
