FastCV provides some primitive functions as building blocks one can use to construct more sophisticated detection and tracking applications, for example fcvCornerFast9, fcvDescriptor17x17u8To36S8, fcvSumOfAbsoluteDiffs8x8u8, fcvImageIntensityHistogram, etc.
In next release that's coming soon, there will be more APIs to support building of such applications. Please stay tuned.

The last digit in release version number indicates minor release for optimization and bug fixes of existing functions. Therefore FastCV 1.1.1 did not introduce new APIs. The new APIs will be coming soon to release 1.2.0.

FastCV is primarily a collection of accelerated CV primitive functions that developers can use to spruce up performance for their advanced applications. Image recognition is a huge topic. There's no simple answer to your question. Depending on your application and implementation, some FastCV functions may be able to speed up critical path of your algorithm.
