I've come to understand that the '7 concurrent camera' support in the RB5 SoC means 2 main camera streams and 5 'lite' streams, but I'm having a hard time getting clarity on what's supported and what not.

Our end-goal is to have a 360-degree camera setup with enough overlap to do stereo disparity for depth estimation. Limited to 5 cameras this would come down to 5 modules with approx. 160 degree view angles. In one of the product pages I found a mention that the lite streams can do up to 2MP.

What I'd like to know is:

  1. Is the 2MP a hard '2.0' limit? Or can we use 2.3MP / 1920 x 1200, as that's a pretty common resolution for global shutter sensors?
  2. Can the SoC use hardware acceleration / ISP functionality for image processing of the 5 cameras?
  3. Can the SoC use hardware acceleration for the stereo disparity of the 5 streams?
  4. What framerate can the lite streams have at 2 or 2.3 MP?

Hi Customer,
If you use 5 cameras, two of them will use ife and three will use ife lite.
The resolution of these three ife lite is 2M/30fps (or 3M/fps), which can be supported.
We need to customize to make 5 cameras work at the same time.
Thanks.

Thank you for your reply.

To clarify, we'd need to run 7 cameras in total: 2 large format (~16-24MP) for multi-purpose (video recording / control to providing color for image segmentation) and 5 2MP monochrome, global shutter cameras -such as the OV02311-E75Y-1C- oriented in a circle to provide 360-degree depth vision.

If I understand correctly the QRB5165 SoC has, by default, 6 4-lane CSI-2 ports. To achieve the 7 camera setup, can one of those be split into two 2-lane CSI-2 ports? Or would a multiplexer work?

Hello customer,
QRB5165 cannot support such a large resolution, I estimate it can only support 16M*1/30fps+2M*5/30fps.yes,QRB5165 SoC has, by default, 6 4-lane CSI-2 ports
thanks
