FIRST Robotics

Are you interested in learning more about the field of robotics today? Do you ever look back and think about the path that brought you to your current area of expertise? Imagine what might have happened if you had access to a robotics program back in high school, or even in middle school…

FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international not-for-profit K-12 organization founded to inspire young people’s interest and participation in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and math). Qualcomm is a strategic partner of FIRST and supporter of its programs, including the FIRST Tech Challenge, an annual robotics competition designed to engage future developers while they’re still in grades 7 through 12 through competitions that are the ultimate “Sport for the Mind.”

Qualcomm is continuing to drive the future of the robotics space, and the annual FIRST competitions are an important part of our vision. As a part of the FIRST Tech Challenge competition, the students are using a new Java-based Android platform, powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 400 and 600 series processors (products of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.), as the control system for their robots.

Today, the challenge is to engage the next generation of young and talented developers and inventors who are thinking about working in robotics. Qualcomm wants to cultivate that interest by providing tools, resources, and our technical experience in a multitude of areas to help inspire young developers to create exciting new innovations in this field.
