The Snapdragon XR1 HMD is based on the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ XR1 Platform, our first chipset dedicated to eXtended reality (XR) and designed to accelerate high-quality video, audio and interaction. The head-mounted device is a reference design made for development of XR software and testing in a form factor that is accurate for deep interaction with XR content.

The HMD’s heterogeneous compute architecture (CPU/GPU/DSP) accelerates the Qualcomm® AI Engine. The engine runs algorithms that can help with AR features like better pose prediction and object classification. The device’s visual technology includes ultra-high-definition 4K video, with Visual Inertial Odometry that lets users move around in VR and interact with AR objects. With three degrees of freedom (3DoF) and 6DoF, the HMD offers head tracking and controller capabilities that let users navigate and interact with their virtual and augmented world.

From the family of XR products powered by Snapdragon, the Snapdragon XR1 HMD reference design helps developers and manufacturers shorten their time to commercialization. The device is meant to operate primarily in tethered mode through a USB Type-C connection to an “XR-optimized,” Snapdragon-powered smartphone, and it can also operate in standalone mode.
