Should Snapdragon Profiler work with Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9'' (3rd gen.)? It seems to recognize the device, but times out when trying to connect. I'm able to use Adreno Profiler with the same tablet.

Our engineers probably have additional suggestions for you, but I'll give you a few things to consider.

1. It sounds like your tablet is appearing in the Connect to Devices area. Let me know if that's not the case.

2. The first time you run Snapdragon Profiler, an APK file needs to be copied and installed onto your device. This sometimes takes a few seconds. Check to see if there is a Snapdragon Profiler icon on one of your Android home screens.

3. If you have other USB cables laying around, you might want to try another one. I've had problems with certain USB cables before.

Hi,

We suspect this is because Snapdragon Profiler 1.0 only works with Android 5.0+ and the Kindle Fire HDX is running a KK fork (Android 4.4.2). We're going to test internally to confirm, but we'll have a release at the end of the month that should provide support for KK devices.

Just want to update that we confirmed our upcoming release will work with the HDX (3rd gen) on 4.4.3 (latest available release).

Thanks Kevin. My HDX shows FireOS version 4.5.5. How soon the upcoming release will become available?

Hi Rick,

1. Correct. Is there a way to include a screenshot?

2. Yes, the icon is there.

3. Tried that. No change.

I wonder which profiler should I be using; Snapdragon or Adreno? I'm working on a Unity app with medium-complexity 3D graphics. Currently I'm getting around 45fps on the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9''. The same app shows 59fps on Samsung Galaxy 2.

Thanks,

Alex.

Sorry for the late response. We're supposed to be notified via email when someone responds, but for some reason that didn't happen.

1. Yes, you can send a screenshot to sdpfeedback@qti.qualcomm.com

2. The new Snapdragon Profiler release that supports Android 4.4 (KitKat) was just posted yesterday. Can you try that version?

You can find it here: https://developer.qualcomm.com/download/snapdragon-profiler.zip

We're encouraging developers to migrate from Adreno Profiler to Snapdragon Profiler.

Thank you for the update. The new Snapdragon Profile connects to my Kindle, but the "New Snapshot Capture" is disabled. That's actually the feature that I wanted to try. Can I do anything to make it work?

Unfortunately, Snapdragon Profiler's snapshot feature requires an updated graphics driver to work, and the Snapshot mode is disabled for any devices that do not have the required updates. We are considering limited support for older devices or devices without these updates, but for now we recommend using Adreno Profiler. Is there any particular feature (or features) with the snapshot that you're interested in using?

I also tried it with a brand new Moto G running Android 5.0.2. The Snapshot is disabled. Do you have a list of devices on which the Snapshot mode would work?

I need to find rendering bottlenecks in a Unity app. Do you have any suggestions? Adreno Profiler won't connect to my devices.

At the moment only MDP's with an updated driver will work. We anticipate that in 1-2 months other devices will have the appropriate drivers through OTA's, but this isn't something we can guarantee as it's an OEM process beyond our control.

For instance, we expect the Nexus 6 to have the updated driver sometime in the next month, but we can't tell you exactly when or if it will be the OTA after that as we don't know ourselves.

Having said that, we completely understand the frustration and are looking at other ways to accomodate developers who may not have or be able to get updated drivers on their devices. Hopefully we'll have a solution in the near future.

Thank you. Hopefully this will work some day. The profiler seems like a really exciting piece of software.
