On Android devices with the Adreno GPU, seems like the driver does not preserve the depth buffer between updates. Seems like an optimization. Is there a way to force the driver to preserve the depth buffer. I have a use case where I need the depth buffer preserved until I explicitly call glClear with the depth bit.
