Does this have an ack timeout api? If so, what is the maximum value, and the countdown clock frequency?

Hi, ddeepakk

We have WISP customers who want long-distance links.

I want to be able to tell them what the maximum distance is.

There are other factors, but when the transit time for the distance exceeds ack timeout, the link will fail.

I'm guessing the maximum  ack timeout is the maximum value of the ack timeout register (15 bits), divided by the countdown clock frequency, which I'm guessing is the radio cpu clock freq.

The cpu clock is different between 11n and 11ac chips, so the max distance is higher for 11n.

If i knew these distances, I could also put them on the OpenwRT GUI.

also, do the chips support NOACK mode, in the sense that the ack timeout is disabled, both for single and aggregate packets?

Hi Nick,

We have MAC registers which can control 802.11 ACK time out value; Secondly, we also support sending Unicast packet without waiting ACK received (we have done it for some customers and it's a proprietary implementation).

Those two features need additional Firmware changes to expose API for QCA9377.LEA.3.0 Software Package available here on qualcomm.com.

Would you like to initiate a discussion with Qualcomm Product Management/Marketing team to discuss further?
If so, could you first share me the chipset volumes (if not exact, at least the projection) ?

I am using Openwrt which has an api modification to expose the Ack timeout value, but it doesn't document what the maximum value  for the register is.

Empirically, if i set the value to 0x4000, the chip behaves as if the value is 0x0, which implies the register is 14 bits, same as 11n chips.

But, the 11ac clock frequency is twice the 11n (88MHz vs 44)  , so the 11ac will count down twice as fast as 11n, so I'm guessing the 11ac max distance is half the 11n (13 vs 26Km).

Is this correct?

Sending Unicast packet without waiting ACK received is an ieee802.11 standard feature contolled by setting flags in the tx descriptor. Is it not supported in the standard 11ac driver? Do i need the Software Package with additional Firmware changes? Can I download it from qualcomm.com?

How are you accessing the register?

What's the source of this data? Are you talking about the QCA9377 clock?

[QC] No.

[QC] You would need a separate Firmware, and it's not openly available for download from qualcomm.com.

It might need you to sign a separate license. Could you share volumes details/projection? I can help to connect you to Product team for further help.
